Parkinson’s Disease Rehab and Physiotherapy
What is Parkinson’s disease
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a progressive neurological condition. People with Parkinson’s don’t have enough of a chemical called dopamine because some nerve cells in their brain have died, meaning that movements become slower. The main symptoms of PD include tremor, rigidity and slowness of movement. Physiotherapy can be of great benefit for people with PD by helping reduce falls or improve mobility.
Parkinson’s disease treatment
Drugs prescribed by Doctors are predominantly used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, while research continues into finding a cure. Physiotherapy can be very beneficial in supporting both the patient and the carer to develop an exercise programme to manage joint stiffness and posture.
Further support can be found through the Parkinson’s Disease Society where you can find information on local support groups and online communities.
